Short Trips Make You Happy and Create Great Memories

June 30, 2014

Psychologists claim that long weekend trips make people happier than long holidays and if you’ve ever taken a long trip in the car you know why.

In the Central New York region there are a lot of destinations which are short trips in every corner of the compass. One such destination was identified as one of the “coolest small towns in America”; Cazenovia, NY. They say, “Cazenovia … may make you feel like you’ve discovered the perfect small town you thought didn’t really exist.”

Cazenovia Lake is the backdrop for this town where you can enjoy all the typical watersports – fishing, any watercraft; canoeing, kayaking and swimming. And, when you return to dry land, you might want to bike ride, jog or take a quick car ride to historical, literary and social points of interest. Here’s a checklist of where you can go:

• Brae Lock Inn: a Scottish-themed inn;

• Lorenzo State Historic Site: the home of the founder of Cazenovia. Make a special effort to come around during the holiday for “Christmas at Lorenzo;”

• Lakeland Park: Enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt, summer concert series, winter Olympics, fireworks;

• Lakeside Park: Picnic pavilions, playground, softball field, boat launch (permit required);

• Memorial Park: Special events, including a Farmers Market, Cazenovia Crusin’ with weekly displays of antique cars every Wednesday during the summer months;

• Critz Farms: Farm winery and tasting room, apple and pumpkin picking, corn maze, wagon rides, animal area, playground, music, special events, gift shop, cafe, maple syrup, informational tours, u-pick berries. Tours are available weekends, as is an all-you-can-eat buffet breakfast;

• Chittenango Falls State Park: Prepare to capture magnificent photos of a picturesque 167-foot waterfall;

Fill up your fuel tank, check your vehicle’s tires and fluid levels, and have a great day trip or long weekend!
