How To: Tell the Size of Your Tire

Tires got your head spinning? Follow these quick and easy steps to find out what size tire you need!

The sizing of your tires can be found not only on the sidewall of the tire themselves, but on a label in your car. Usually found on the driver’s side door jamb, this sticker gives you all the information you’ll need regarding your tires. No luck finding it there? It could be hiding in your glove box or gas tank hatch.

A tire size is typically read as a series of numbers and letters, for example: 265/70R16.The first three letters, 265, tells you the width of the tire in millimeters. The following two-digit number is the aspect ratio. “70” means that the height of the tire is 70% of the width of the tire.
