Seasonal Preventative Maintenance Tips You Can’t Ignore!

July 26, 2021

Safety is the name; seasonal preventative maintenance is the game. It becomes especially important to maintain your car year-round as the seasons turn and the temperature changes. To help keep you and your vehicle safe throughout the year, here is a list of 5 preventative maintenance tips you should consider as the seasons change.

Tires

Your vehicle’s tires are one of the most important parts of seasonal auto maintenance. As the temperature changes, so do the road conditions. Especially being in Upstate New York, when the large amounts of snow and ice hit, you may need winter tires to provide extra traction to your vehicle. Even in warmer climates, your tires will wear down over time. This can result in your vehicle leaning more to one side and cause uneven driving and difficulty in steering. Rotating your tires regularly will extend the life of your tires and keep your car running smoothly. Taking the proper initiatives throughout every season to make sure your tires are in tip-top shape will allow for your car to run safely. Tire care is critical to your safety and the upkeep of your vehicle.

Oil Change

The warmer seasons can lead to insects, heavy rains, or other various environmental factors negatively affecting your vehicle’s condition. During the spring and summer months, dirt and debris can build up in your car, making it lumpy and dirty. This will impact your car’s oil and result in a build-up of grime. This build-up will prevent your vehicle’s components from working properly and safely. Also, this can cause a quicker depletion of fluids in your vehicle. Therefore, it is crucial to get an oil change every four to six months, or after 10,000 miles. An oil change is essential for your engine to run smoothly and efficiently.

Brake Inspection

It is important to have your brakes inspected when the season changes, since your vehicle’s stopping power will be reduced on snow and ice-covered roads. If your brake pads have not been changed or checked in a while, this should be the time to have them changed to help keep you and other drivers out on the roads safe. One of the worst things that can happen to you on a slippery road is to suffer a brake malfunction. Before our roads get wet or icy, make sure you get your brakes inspected to save yourself, your family, and other drivers from harm.

Heating and Air Conditioning

When the weather changes, you are going to want a vehicle that can regulate temperature properly. So, seasonal changes are a good time to have your heating and AC systems checked to ensure that you remain warm in the winter, and cool in the summer. It is important that your vehicle can properly regulate the temperature during different weather conditions, to allow for a comfortable commute. Before temperatures get too extreme, it is a good idea to get your heating and air conditioning systems checked.

Tune-Up

Getting a tune-up is a great way of putting your mind at ease before a change in season or temperature. If you are uncertain about which component of your car might need the most work or attention, a tune-up will help make sure your vehicle is running at its full capacity. During a tune-up, we will check your vehicle to make sure there are no problems related to the engine, battery, ignitions, and brakes, to ensure that your vehicle is running smoothly and safely.
