Wait! It’s Not Too Late for These Resolutions

January 5, 2015

I know what you’re saying, “The New Year has already started and it’s too late to make those New Year’s Resolutions.”

Really? Resolutions can start any time. Don’t make excuses. The important thing is to make a serious commitment to them. So let’s begin…

What are some good resolutions that you can make for your car’s performance and your family’s safety?

  1. Check your tires regularly. Are they properly inflated? Do they have enough tread on them?
  2. Check your fluid levels (oil, transmission, windshield wash). Keep them at acceptable levels.
  3. Check and change filters as needed.
  4. Ask your mechanic to take care of numbers 1, 2 and 3 for you when you bring your car in for an oil change.
  5. Organize your glove compartment. What DO you have in there? What should you have in there? You can throw out the insurance and registration from 2010 but make sure you keep the most recent ones and those receipts and car repair notes. Oh, maybe you’ll want to put that baseball in the garage or sport shed.
  6. Put an emergency kit in your car – include a couple of blankets and some water and food or candy bars.
  7. Carpool whenever possible – it saves gas and keeps you informed on what your family and friends are up to.
  8. Listen to your car. Is it making any new noises or is it grumbling? Respond with a visit to the mechanic.
  9. Take a closer look at your car. Are there any dangling pieces under the body or do you notice something loose? Check it out.
  10. Clean the car, inside and out. Not only will it make you feel better, and your car look sharp, but for some, it will lighten the load and actually reduce gas usage.

I hope you consider doing all of the above for a Happy Car and a Happy New Year!
